A person becomes familiar with fear in the womb and this feeling continues to accompany him throughout his life. So why not challenge your fears? I did it – played Resident Evil 2 Remake. I present to you the story of how it all happened.
First, thanks to Capcom for publishing the 1998 remake of Resident Evil 2. The game tells the stories of rookie cop Leon Kennedy and student Claire Redfield. The story campaign with Claire took me a week and these were the most terrible 7 days for me: during this time I acquired four gray hairs and a disgruntled neighbor of retirement age.
According to the plot, Claire doesn’t stay at home. Eager to meet her brother, she goes to Raccoon City. To her great regret, due to an annoying warm-up, she does not find a close relative at the police station. Fate sends her much less pleasant encounters.
Speaking about Claire Redfield, I note that she is a strong woman. Brave and Brave. In a word, everything that cannot be said about me. I’m very impressionable and cowardly.
In moments of panic, I switched to ultrasound. Claire was much more confident. She was not at all embarrassed by what was happening around her: neither the ubiquitous walking corpses, nor the bald creatures with sewer larvae, nor Mr. X hot on her heels. Even swimming in the mud baths of the local sewer didn’t bother her much.
In short, Claire cannot be called a fragile girl. They say about such people that she will enter a burning hut and stop a galloping horse. I even had a sneaking suspicion that she was born in Russia and her real name was Klara.
The content of Resident Evil 2 Remake makes you fall in love with itself and with each new stage more and more. From the first minutes of gameplay, the gamer feels the pace being set: Claire needs to be on the alert, be able to give in in time and keep the gun ready. However, for all her coolness, she sometimes cannot step over small obstacles in the form of cardboard boxes and all sorts of garbage, or bend down here and there. Although, apparently, she is also very lucky, this does not prevent her from getting to the police station and catching her breath.
When meeting walking corpses, the first thing you want to do is use your own hands and feet in close combat, but Claire seems to be deprived of natural instincts of self-defense: she is in no hurry to give a kick or a juicy punch to the offenders. Eo is mitigated by the fact that the game allows you to stock up on defensive equipment.
There’s not much to get by with melee weapons, but with firearms, players are provided with a good survival kit: samurai blade (Albert, Chris model), SLS 60, grenade launcher. However, all this does not matter if you do not get cartridges and ammunition for them. Because my luck was not in my favor: I found cartridges more often for one type of weapon. Of course, I was pleased with the mechanics of their creation. But what I liked more was watching monsters burn and explode from incendiary shells. Even the machine gun fitted by the game at the end didn’t impress me that much.

I even managed to open one of these at random – I found the DCM code. I had to tinker with a lot of the rest. For example, with a safe, with chess pieces or in a gaming room.
Wandering around local attractions, I acquired the rules of travel: walk as lightly as possible, board up the windows, aim exclusively for the head, run with your heels sparkling at the sight of Mr. X.
These standards of behavior would not have existed if it had not been for the horror and fear I experienced. And I wasn’t so afraid. The most memorable moments for me were:
Mini adventure when meeting little Sherry.
Sherry is a little girl who was unlucky enough to be born into a family of scientists. She did not receive her portion of parental love and affection, she suffered as many horrors as the Mexican cartels do not smuggle. And yet she bravely copes with the collapses in her life and does not lose her mind after all the adventures.
My suspiciousness whispered to me not to contact her, because as practice shows, any contact with children leads to unpleasant consequences.
Well, these unpleasant consequences were not long in coming. The episode when the monster appeared (and all the time spent with him) was not the most pleasant for me. To say that I was very surprised when I saw him for the first time is to say nothing..
Walk through the library
Just entering the reading room, I ran into several handsome guys. At the same time, in a panic attack, the brain seemed to sterilize information about the correct use of a knife. These unforgettable moments seem to remain in the memory forever.
My initiation into young pathfinders
I tried 3 times to get past Mr. X, the slime and the zombie and all to no avail. Then I realized that I shouldn’t “leave zombies for later”. I took a shot, I definitely need to reload. Before you go further, you need to make sure of the degree to which your enemies have been killed. In such an atmosphere, the only thing that calms you down is the sight of flying brains – this gives at least some guarantees for the next 5-10 minutes.
Meet Mr. X
This mysterious guy made me shake with fear. Musical accompaniment helped him in this. I felt with every cell of my body the growing tension and general escalation of the atmosphere. After his first appearance, I spent 15 minutes persuading myself to leave the safe zone. Only the next day I became bolder. At one point I thought Mr. X looked like a flabby silver surfer. Anything can seem – fear has big eyes after all.
Meeting with the lickers
Slime looks like a toothy bald human-sized creature. The skull is completely missing. His ability to open his mouth would be the envy of all the workers of the Red Light District. In a word, there is nothing pleasant about it. As a result, in this stressful situation, as well as in subsequent ones, I succumbed to inappropriate behavior. I don’t remember that I swore so much at all. But I will consider that it helped me fight the horror that overwhelmed me. At these moments my ultrasound reached its peak. And the second meeting with him was not so rosy.
The main idea of RE2R is that if you want to see your relatives, then it’s better at home. But seriously, the message is that compassion can save the lives of many people. Even though it may seem like it would be better if I stayed at home.

RE2R is definitely worth playing, including for newcomers to the horror genre. RE2R is an army of suddenly popping up and sometimes unkillable zombies, long dark corridors, terrifying and terrifying monsters, crazy fanatics and the stunning Mr. X in the truest sense of the word. It seems that even an experienced player will get into trouble when meeting with the inhabitants of the police station. And yes, be careful in the laboratory: most zombies are waiting for the arrival of fresh meat there.
